My Baby Bump

So, there it is. My baby bump. SHOCKER! The only thing is……I am not pregnant. That bump you see is the “love child” of my summer of self-indulgence. The summer of 2015 has been a whirlwind of romance, travel and adventure for me. As it comes to a close, I feel as if I am sliding in to home base, body battered and bruised, with two scabby, skinned out knees (literally my knees are still sore from the fall I took after being “hurricaned” in New Orleans). With all of that travel and adventure of course, comes a gluttony of eating and drinking, such as:

Sampling sweets at the Pâtisseries of St. Pierre.

Delighting in the Creole flavors of Louisiana.

Wolfing down salty fries from a chip truck on George Street, St. John’s.

And washing it all down with copious amounts of wine.

This is my mom, my daughter and I in Halifax at wine-o-clock.

Needless to say, all of that pleasure comes with a price. The unfortunate thing about fat is that it kind of sneaks up on you. It was easy enough for me to pass the first couple of pounds off as bloating and gas. Then as my tummy became rounder, I found myself rubbing it in circular motion while smiling contentedly at it. I knew at that moment that I was in trouble. I was getting attached to my belly fat!   I was out of control!!! Something had to be done.

And so, I have committed myself to a 30 day de-tox diet, starting on September 1st. For 30 days, there will be no alcohol, no sweets, no meats, and no dairy. I commit to drinking at least eight glasses of spring water a day, and to exercising for at least 30 minutes each day. That way, I am sure to be in prime shape for when my sister, Lynette  visits in October, and I inevitably fall off the wagon.

Why not join with the thousands of others who are taking this challenge with me?   Well, truth be told, so far it is just me, my daughter Kaitlyn, my cousin Lil, and my boyfriend Steve. But there is always a place for you on the team!

  1. Since you spun in that perspective…i have now changed my mantra to “In training to fall off the wagon”. Perhaps some sometime around the Run for the Cure or Thanksgiving I will indulge in some ”meats”. So in the meantime, i have black beans soaking overnight. After that, I have no idea what to do with them….Allrecipes, here I come.

    Good Luck!

  2. So far so good! Confession…I slipped on Day 2 with Wings at a bar with a buddy. No booze though. Slid them down with coffee and paid dearly with internal gastrointestinal combat for the next 8 hours.

Other than that. Beans, quinao, veggies, water and supplements and my fitness routine is going very well. Feeling really good. Cinnamon apple tea and soda water helps.
Thanks for the motivation Flo. Keep those walks and yoga going — it makes me focus. (Maybe im a bit competative 😁)
