Awesome!

I just love the Book of Awesome by Neil Pasricha.  Neil describes himself as an “average guy” who began a blog to document 1000 awesome things….those free little joys that make life so sweet.   His list of awesome includes things like: waking up and realizing it is Saturday; popping bubble wrap; and the smell of freshly baked bread.  These are simple pleasures that can bring a smile to your face on an ordinary day.

Wednesday started out as an ordinary day for me: getting the kids off to school, going to work, and rushing home to prepare supper.  But somewhere along the way, the day turned “awesome”.  My first surprise was finding myself home alone after work for one whole, sweet hour.  It is amazing how much can get accomplished in a house without calls of: “Mom, I’m hungry”; “Mom, where is my….” And “Mom I need a ride…”  Feeling a sense of satisfaction at having completed so many chores, I grabbed my jacket to go pick up Ben.  I had not worn that jacket in a few months, and was surprised to put my hand in the pocket and find a ten dollar bill.  Awesome!  To top off my list of awesome, Ben was very cooperative at homework time, and actually put himself to bed early, allowing me to have an early night as well.  What sweet pleasures!

I think my experience with cancer has really opened my eyes to the many awesome things that happen in my life on an ordinary day……………..and hey, I just woke up and realized it is Saturday, how awesome is that!

  1. Wishing you another Awesome day! You are so right Florence. In the midst of who we are, what we do, and what comes our way on a daily basis it is still the simple pleasures, perks, delights, moments that leave the most lasting impressions in our hearts. That can be anything like watch our children sleep, to solitude and quietness in our home, witnessing our gardens bloom each year, a smile…. I hope today brings you many joys and peaceful moments.

  2. Definitely Florence we have to be thankful for all these pleasures that we take for granted but when for some reason we cannot do these daily things we realize how important they are to our daily lives and some of these pleasures can make special memories too. Glad you had an Awesome day hope you have an Awesome weekend.

  3. I havent posted here before but I have been following you and your recovery. It is amazing and awesome how one looks at life after a life changing illness or sickness. My husband was hospitalized in Burin over the past winter with a very serious blood infection and nearly lost his life, before they actually found the right treatment to fight the Sepsis. It has changed both of our lives in so many ways. We had only been married 4 months when this happened. We have two amazing little grandkids that we so look forward to watching grow.

So yes life is awesome and the little things that we had only taken for granted before means the world to us now, and we embrace our lives together with all we have because tomorrow may never come.
God bless you and I pray you always find peace with your awesome life as you know it.
